Lynwood: The Chick Magnet
by Adam Fein (Mar 31 2018)
Just seven years ago I was a young, dirty, stinky, skinny stray living on the mean streets of South Los Angeles. I had nowhere to go, and no one to love.
If someone back then told me that when I grew up I would train and compete in water sports and become a registered Therapy Dog Team member, I would’ve told them they were nuttier than a squirrel. And, let’s be honest, squirrels are already SUPER nuts!
When I first found my human, Adam, he had just moved his mom and her chihuahua in with him for home hospice care. Her stupid cancer had returned, and Adam and family were doing their best to make her comfortable.
One day while at work, he found me hiding under a car — scared, hungry, and alone. I was a good boy so he called a few rescues to see if anyone could help me. One sweet lady said, “Give the dog a month and call me back if you still need help.” So, my new human took the risk of fostering me at home with his dying mother and an anxious chihuahua.
A week after I came to live with them, his mom rang a bell at her bedside. My human panicked and came rushing in to see if I was being a bad boy. Instead, he found me resting my big ol’ head on her lap. It was at that moment I won my human over. It was that moment he decided to become my forever family.
My doggy senses told me the entire family was not totally comfortable with me yet, so I did my best to give them space. It wasn’t long before I had won the family over and tricked them into giving me treats.
Since then, we’ve had so many adventures together! We go on a ton of car rides, visiting the beaches, breweries, hiking trails, and all kinds of pawsome places. He’s taught me how to cuddle with sick children in the hospital, calm down anxious people at the airport, and I’ve even visited scary prisons to interact with the incarcerated. I even try to help him meet the ladies! Except I’m too much of a chick magnet, all attention is on me!
Just seven years ago, I thought my life was over and I’d never find a human to love…. Now, I’ve become the ultimate wing man!
